Louis represents clients in a variety of business related legal matters.
Admitted to the bar in 1990, over the course of his career he has appeared in hundreds of matters in Alberta’s Court of Queen’s Bench and Court of Appeal. He has also appeared in the Ontario Court of Appeal, the Court of High Justice, the British Columbia Supreme Court and the Northwest Territory Supreme Court. In addition to his courtroom experience, he has represented clients in dozens of JDR’s, mediations and arbitrations.
In recent years, Louis’ practice has evolved to include retainers to act as an independent investigator in employment cases, arbitrator in commercial arbitrations and umpire under the Insurance Act.
He is a former chair of the Canadian Bar Association Construction Law section, and has delivered talks and written articles on numerous occasions. He is a member of the Alberta Arbitration and Mediation Society and Canadian Institute for the Administration of Justice.
On January 1, 2012, Louis was honoured to receive the designation of Queen’s Counsel from the Province of Alberta.
Louis enjoys spending time with his family, being active, and pursuing a number of hobbies and technical interests. Louis is a licensed private pilot with an instrument rating. As a pilot he is a member of the Canadian Owners’ and Pilot’s Association and the Experimental Aircraft Association.
